The Monty Hall Problem

Infographic titled The Monty Hall Problem. Left: three doors; door 1 is outlined in gold and labelled you pick, door 2 is still shut, door 3 stands open showing a goat; three rules: the host knows where the car is, always opens a door hiding a goat, and always offers the switch. Centre: the three equally likely cases, each with probability 1/3. Car behind door 1: staying wins, switching loses. Car behind door 2: the host must open door 3, switching wins. Car behind door 3: the host must open door 2, switching wins. Right: a line chart of the running win rate over the first 600 simulated games converging to 2/3 for switching and 1/3 for staying, and bars from 100,000 simulated games: switch 66.4 percent, stay 33.6 percent. Bottom cards: 1/3 chance if you stay; 2/3 if you switch; Selvin's 1975 letters and vos Savant's 1990 column.
